This Bill will support the sustainability of the public health service by encouraging people to buy and maintain their health insurance. New Zealand’s private health sector is 16% (and downward trending) compared to the OECD average of 28%, and Australia’s of 35%. The Government needs to provide an incentive for those wanting to contribute to their own healthcare as a way of ensuring private healthcare does not collapse putting extra strain on public health.
