Regional Development
It still holds true that when our regions are prospering, we all prosper. Unfortunately, targeted regional development to promote real growth has been ignored by the Government. To repair the damage will take a rounded approach to maximise the potential of the people and natural resources of a region. In this way the wellbeing of all living in that region will be enhanced.
Where we've got to
- Regional development has been stunted by the Government
- Government failed in its derisory effort to ‘pick winners’ among regional businesses
- Regions left to flounder in the face of Government inaction
History
The Government has largely ignored the needs of regions and instead tried to pick winners from regional businesses or sectors. It is not the role of central Government to take such a role when redistributing taxpayer funds. It has, in some cases, seen the growth of corporate welfare which fosters greater dependency on state funding.
Why you should care
Thriving regions equates to a thriving country and the best way to ensure this is through fostering regional development that will help both rural and urban New Zealand get back on a sound financial footing.
